At Mingyue, making a project is a vehicle for learning rather than a race to a finished object. Learners repeatedly move through understanding, designing, making, testing, and explaining a meaningful problem.
The learning cycle
1. Understand the problem
Learners identify who the work is for, what the environment allows, and what a useful result would mean. They practise observing evidence before jumping to the first answer.
2. Propose options
Ideas become sketches, explanations, or small models. Comparing more than one option gives a learner a reason for choosing.
3. Make something testable
The first version is not expected to be perfect. Its job is to make an idea tangible enough to test.
4. Revise from feedback
A failed test is new information. Learners locate the problem, set a priority, and decide what the next version should change.
5. Explain the work
Sharing is more than displaying an object. Learners explain their reasoning, what happened, and how evidence changed their decisions.
What mentors do
- Turn a vague goal into a question a learner can act on.
- Establish safety boundaries for tools, materials, teamwork, and activities.
- Offer prompts that fit the learner's readiness without supplying the entire solution.
- Capture important moments and help the learner identify a useful next step.
What families can notice
Look beyond the number of facts covered. Useful evidence includes a learner who can state the problem, show sketches or versions, explain what a failed test revealed, justify a choice, and suggest a next step.
